The movement of odma.info to a new server occured in October, 2006.  At that time, case-sensitivity of URLs on the new system caused breakage of links and bookmarks throughout the site.  This condition was noted, and the repaving announced but no action was initiated until July, 2007, building on the experience of repaving the ODMdev material.

The main ODMA site has experienced continued neglect since that time, with repaving and development effort focused on ODMdev.  In order to have this site be useful for continuing ODMA support along with the prospective ODMA 2.5 and 3.0 (ODMA64) progression, a more-systematic approach for slow but steady attention to repaving is being initiated now.  The experience of having completely-current style consistency and accommodation of case-sensitivity on the nfoWorks site is being taken as a model.

1. Announcement Inserts

1.1 Area Undergoing Repaving

ODMA> repaving> 2008-04-25 rededication>

ODMA.info Is Being Repaved.

Migration to a new server introduced a number of problems that need to be repaired.  Older pages also need to be modified and reorganized for consistency across the entire ODMA site.  While the site is being repaved to accomplish both kinds of improvements, you may notice discrepancies and problems with links to site content.

Check the Site Repaving Project pages for additional details on the known defects and the approach to correction and upgrade.  Contact the ODMA Technical Coordinator with questions and to report any defects that you notice.

The basic notice is used for notification in all locations where customization of material is needed before the repaving is complete.  This notice applies to the level at which it appears and all levels deeper than that.  It cannot be removed until the current level and all lower levels are complete.  If there is content as well as construction structure at or below a given level, this notice is not removed until the bootstraps of both are complete and so indicated.

1.2 Completed Construction Structure Repaving

This Construction Structure was successfully repaved as part of the
2008-04-25 rededication stage of the Site Repaving Project.  Check those pages for additional details of the approach to correction and upgrade.
Contact the ODMA Technical Coordinator with questions and to report any subsequent defects that you notice.

This insertion amends/replaces the announcement insertion when the construction structure repaving at the point of insertion and for all deeper levels have been completed.  For content material, this is not needed, although the construction structure of the content material must have been repaved (and then noted in the construction structure for the appropriate folder).

1.3 Completed Content Material Repaving

The Content Material here was successfully repaved as part of the
2008-04-25 rededication stage of the Site Repaving Project.  Check those pages for additional details of the approach to correction and upgrade.
Contact the  ODMA Technical Coordinator with questions and to report any subsequent defects that you notice.

This insertion amends/replaces the announcement insertion when the content material governed by a job jar, immediate Construction Structure or a Construction Zone has been repaved.

1.4 Conforms to Repaving-Governed Structure

The Construction and Content Material here was created in conformance with the style requirements of the
Site Repaving Project.  Check that folder for additional details of the approach to correction and upgrade.
Contact the  ODMA Technical Coordinator with questions and to report any subsequent defects that you notice.

This insertion is used with new material that is created directly on the site with no customization needed.

2. Current Approach

  1. The construction structure of the site is made current and properly connected.  This provides the artifacts used to manage additional review and repaving of content materials.

    • The construction structure is reviewed starting with the "front porch:" the root materials at http://odma.info/.  Work items and their completion will be accounted for as part of the front-porch Construction Zone.

    • After the front porch is adjusted, the construction structure of each subfolder is reviewed, extending recursively through all of the construction-structure elements.    Additional items that happen to be noticed will be added to the work items of the applicable construction zone.

    • The construction structure and the related construction zones can be located by navigating the construction structure provided at the front porch.

    • When the construction structure is reviewed and adjusted as necessary, a completion message will be inserted to avoid wondering which structures have and have not been reviewed.

  2. The ActiveODMA content is made consistent, reachable, and properly linked.

    • The modifications to that compilation of material will begin with those important for the ODMJNI Public Beta.

    • The ActiveODMA section has a construction zone for management of its internal construction structure.  Items about ActiveODMA elements of the overall repaving will be found there.

  3. The downloads, faq, and support sections will be reviewed to ensure that their existing content is reachable and that case-sensitivity conflicts are reconciled.  As part of that survey, the content of these sections will also be surveyed for other changes that are needed as part of improving the site organization and the way material is versioned and accounted for.

  4. The preceding activities will be carried out in parallel so that the essential needs for the ODMJNI Public Beta are met as quickly as possible and broken links are repaired so that all ODMA Interoperability Exchange content is accessible.

  5. The downloads, faq, and support sections (will) each have a Catalog and a Job Jar for their content materials.  Survey of content in those sections will be reflected by items in the respective job jars.  This level will provide a checklist for the further adjustment and repaving of these sections undertaken after the adjustments for case sensitivity are completed.

  6. As appropriate, completion messages will be inserted to avoid wondering which sections have and have not been reviewed and repaved.

  7. On completion of these adjustments, other sections will be reviewed and repaved.  The sections that were already surveyed for broken links will also be revisited to complete additional repaving as part of normalization of the site's organization.

The repaving project is rededicated with this page, including notices for the three cases of repaving completion.  The first sweep of a complete repaving analysis is maintained, but there is now a systematic way to follow waves through the site as different elements are repaved and brought current with the latest style for the site.
